Fever Ray is the solo project of Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife.
The music is similar, but more haunting. Somewhat stripped back of The Knife image, and presenting a darker one.
I adore Andersson’s voice. It’s unusual and it grab your attention whether you like it or not.
A song of her which grabbed me was ‘If I had a heart’, (which was also the first single from the album). It was late in the eve and I was about to pass out. But I heard the violins and BAM! I opened my eyes and was hypnotized by it.
The video clip is pretty interesting. Check it out.
Enjoy.

On a grey and dull day. My head fuzzy from weekend shenanigans. I decided to go on an adventure without ever leaving my bedroom.
I was lucky. I threw in the name of a band I had read about a while ago called Warpaint.
Three very lovely ladies from the US, with a the ability to strum all kinds of emotions into your soul.
Their delicate style reminds me of Au Revoir Simone or CocoRosie (minus the clattering sound of toys).
Here is a song of theirs that has hypnotized me. It is half a cover. Try and figure out with one.
(It’s not a video clip… Just close your eyes and listen)
Enjoy.

My mind is absolutely flooded with shit. Causing strange headaches and mood swings.
What would calm me down? Take me away? The Friendly Fires’ Paris, but the Aeroplane remix.
I know it’s nothing new, but with Parklife around the corner… It’s only appropriate. The original track is great. But the remix is so dreamy. The bells. The soft vocals of Au Revoir Simone. The track cradles me in cloud like arms. Lifting up, and away from the craze of life. Heavenly.
This is not the original clip, as it is a remix.
Enjoy.

My first Emiliana Torrini encounter would have been due to a Rough Trade Records sample CD.
Her song ‘Sunny Road’ was on it. Her voice was so soft and pretty. It reminded me of green grass, sunsets, the beach and good times. It was love and it was the heart-melting and endearing kind.
Her most recent single, ‘Jungle Drum’, is wild. Literally. It’s more energetic and I feel she makes more use and experiments more with her pipes.
I am in love with the playfulness of this song.
I AM in love. This song helps it.
Enjoy.

Kasabian have released their new album, ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’.
‘Fire’ is one of the singles they have released and it is amazing. I adore it. It excites me. The build up of the music the climax. The change in the beat. The vocals, like velvet.
I am in heaven.
Enjoy.

I heard the remix for this song first. I fell head over heels in love with it. I love it so much, whenever I would hear it, I would dance like mad (and kiss the boy I was with at the time). It also made me search and listen to the original.
The original is nice, but it was waiting for someone to jazz it up. Who better than Melbourne’s 1928. He gave it personality and soul. I am going to let you listen and judge for yourself.
Make sure you show Valerie some love here, and College some love here.
Here’s a cute video I found on Youtube. Boy with freckles and horses. Perfect.
Er, I had to change the video due to the first one being removed. Idiots.
Enjoy.

…Tegan and Sara come to the rescue with ‘Back in your head’.
Usually, I write about the gigs I’ve seen. This time, it’s personal.
After two weeks of uni, work and squishing friends, problems and parties in. I broke. I cried my heart out.
Puffy eyes and sensitive ears, I indulge in some girly music. My favourites.
This next song is by Lykke Li. She IS amazing. I had the plearsure of experiancing her music live, (my first gig for 2009, actually!). I was so impressed and pleased, it was worth it.
This song I was secretly, having a secret affair with. Even I wasn’t informed! After a while and especially after her show, I realised what was going on. It was beautiful.
I don’t really like the official music video for this song. So here’s a live recording with a different take on it. Very raw.
OH, and did I mention she is STUNNING!? Well, she is!
Lisa Mitchell was on Australian Idol. Was voted off. Disappeared. Re-appeared. She’s good! This song is cute and girly. I like the clip. Reminds me of Tinkerbells home in the movie ‘Hook’ (one of the many takes on Peter Pan). Living in a hole in a tree filled with bits ‘n bobs.
Hope you like this little insight in my non-disco side.
Enjoy.
